Working Mom Chronicles Pt. 1

As a flight attendant mom comes a crazy hectic schedule also a sense of loneliness. Especially now more than ever.

See when I was a new flight attendant I was home sick. I missed Steven, my family and my friends back home. I dreaded working holidays more because I knew I probably be spending them by myself at a hotel in a whole different state miles away from home. But as time went on I learned to be independent even more than I was before and I also learned that distance makes the heart grow fonder.

Now the loneliness is different. I miss my girls, like crazy! (And trust me it’s not like I work full time either.) But in time I’ve noticed that they are also becoming very independent little human beings knowing mommy has to work and that she will be back in a few days.

At the end of the day I know that I’m doing the right thing by showing them that it’s ok to be away from mommy for just a few days a month. I feel so lucky to have the job that I have during this time especially because I am able to spend so much time with them. That is so important to me because they are literally growing right before my eyes.

Here is a list of things I like to do while I’m away from the girls to ease that loneliness a bit:

1. I write them emails about my overnights or fun things that we did during the week.

2. I go through all of my pictures and videos and send them the ones that I know they’ll love looking back at one day.

3. I plan their next adventures so while I’m home we know what we’re doing. For instance like things we can do as a family, play dates, museums, etc.

4. I also love shopping for them! But what parent doesn’t. I actually have a few consignment stores that I love going to when I’m on my overnights.

If you haven’t created an email for your little one already do it now! Steven and I created both girls emails right after they were born. Once they’re old enough we will give them all of the information so they can have access to it.

Are any working mamas out there that feel me? Any aviation mamas with little ones? Or what do you do for work? What do you guys do with time spent at home? How do you ease the loneliness while away from your little ones?

Xoxo,

Magaly
