Dia De Los Muertos with Vallarta Supermarket

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Vallarta Supermarkets. The opinions and text are all mine.

Día de los Muertos is a beautiful Mexican tradition that is also celebrated in other Latin countries like El Salvador. It’s not as a big celebration like in Mexico but my grandma that lives in El Salvador has always celebrated it since I could remember. As a young girl I remember her setting up the altar with pictures of her parents and her youngest son. She would make these beautiful paper banners and flowers to decorate the altar with addition to candles and food. She would add calaveras that were colorful with flowers. I remember the alter being so beautiful and back then as a kid I didn’t understand it, but I am glad that I was brought up around it.

Well now I have two little girls of my own and I love to carry on traditions with them. I think Día De Los Muertos is definitely one holiday that means a lot to me just because although they never got a chance to meet their grandma, (my husbands’ mom) we can keep her memory alive by celebrating her life and talking to them about her. The more we talk about her the more they can relate to her. Same as their great grandmothers. Madison was born a year after Gogo (Great grandma) pass. But we know how happy she would have been to know that we were finally growing our family.

To get our Día De Los Muertos celebration going I gather pictures of the girl’s grandma and their great grandmothers, a colorful blanket and a wooden box that we painted in grandma Linda’s favorite color, lavender. Then we headed to our favorite store, Vallarta Supermarket to pick up the rest of our essentials. We grabbed some Marigold flowers, candles, pan dulce, pan de Muertos and candy. The girls had so much fun picking stuff up at the store. It’s so convenient to be able to get everything we needed for our altar at Vallarta Supermarkets! The Marigolds are fresh and so beautiful. The Pan De Muertos was definitely the girls favorite as well as the pan dulce. If you need anything for your altar trust me this is where you want to go!

I feel so grateful that I can pass these traditions to my little girls. All I can hope for is that they do the same when they have their own children. How do you celebrate Día De Los Muertos? And what are your favorite things to shop for at Vallarta’s Supermarket? Let me know below.
