Maya’s Magical Unicorn First Birthday

The day finally came and my baby is officially a 1 year old, guys! Where did this last year go!?! It feels like just yesterday I was holding this almost 9 lbs. baby. And will you guys believe that we started planning her birthday months in advance but of course didn’t start the process till 3 weeks before the big day. Because let’s be honest… I am better at working under pressure, even though Steven hates it.

Maya’s first birthday was as magical as a Unicorn! You can sort of say I’m a Pinterest mom because I kind of am. It’s one of the things I think drives Steven crazy because once I have something in my head he has no choice than to go along with my craziness.

So first of all, although I did do some of the projects, I cannot take full credit! I had so much help along the way and without my friends and family the party would not have been a success.

Maria is one of my best friends and she is the most talented person I know! She is the one that created this beautiful flower wall. Stunning right!?!!

The goodie bags were just plain bags and we did the cut outs with the cricut explorer and everything was glued together. Once again Maria was the one that created those cute little flowers on the baggies too!

My girlfriend, Jenny made this incredible milestone chalk board for Maya! If you guys are in the market for a board definitely check her out!

For the cupcakes and smash cake, I used a simple boxed mix that I doctorate to make a lemon cupcake and added lemon filling to them. The frosting was also made from scratch and I added lemon extract to that as well. I then separated the frosting into three dishes and colored it with food coloring of my choice and place each frosting in their own piping bags. Then I placed all three bags in a bigger piping bag and that’s how you get the three-colorful effect. So easy right! As far as the unicorn decoration, I used a mold and piped white chocolate in it. Then I used edible gold paint for the horns and pink for the inner of the ears. (I used regular brushes to paint on the chocolate.)

The unicorn cake was made by one of my girlfriends that owns a shop called CakeBoxOnMain in Downtown Riverside. Her cakes are amazingly delicious. We always order cakes from her and trust me she never disappoints! I also buy all my molds from her and the chocolate, the edible paint and basically anything that has to do with baking. You guys definitely check her out. She also recommended her friend to me to make these adorable sugar cookies. They were too cute to eat but they were really yummy!

Overall the party was a success! The weather was amazing and the food was delicious! I hope that everyone who showed up had a great time ultimately. Thank you also to everyone that helped out even at the last minute, because hosting birthdays like this seriously takes a village!

What are some of your favorite things about birthday parties? Would you guys like tutorials for some of our creations? Maybe some of the recipes we used to make certain things? Let me know and I’ll make it happen!

Xoxo,

Maggie

P.S. Here are some pictures of the day of the party. Enjoy!
