Why Disneyland Will Always Feel Like Home to Me

There’s something about walking through those gates that resets everything. The stress, the noise, the to-do list — it all fades. The music hits and something in my chest just… relaxes.

For our family, Disneyland isn’t just a theme park. It’s where we breathe.

I know that sounds dramatic. But let me explain.

I grew up going to Disneyland and every single time we walked through those gates I felt like anything was possible. That feeling never went away. And now watching my kids experience it — Madison reaching for my hand on the Haunted Mansion, Maya losing her mind over every princess she spots, Mason’s face the first time he saw the castle — I understand it even more now.

Magic isn’t just for kids. It’s for the moms who need to remember what wonder feels like too.

What Disneyland means to our family

We go as much as we can. Steven calls me a Disney adult and he’s not wrong. But what he understands — and what I think anyone who’s been to Disney with their family understands — is that these are the trips the kids remember. Not the fancy resort vacations or the perfectly planned itineraries. The times we spontaneously jumped on Pirates of the Caribbean three times in a row. The Dole Whip at sunset. The parade that made Madison cry because it was so beautiful.

Those moments are priceless and I will plan and budget and sacrifice to give them to my kids as long as I can.

Tips for making the most of your Disneyland trip

  • Go on a weekday whenever possible. The difference in crowd levels is significant.
  • Download the app before you go. Lightning Lane, mobile ordering, wait times — it’s all there.
  • Mobile order your meals. Don’t wait in a food line when you could be on a ride.
  • Hit your must-do rides first thing in the morning. The lines are shortest right when the park opens.
  • Build in a mid-day break. Especially with little ones. Go back to your hotel, rest, come back for the evening. Game changer.
  • Don’t try to do everything. Pick your priorities and enjoy them fully instead of rushing through everything stressed.

We’ll be sharing a full Disneyland guide soon — everything I’ve learned across years of trips with kids of all ages. Subscribe below so you don’t miss it.

Until then — I’ll be the one crying at the fireworks. Every time.

Con amor, Maggie ✈️🏰
